Crash Site Shows Belleville Students Impact of Impaired, Distracted Driving

The Belleville High School Safety Team and Belleville Public School Guidance Department placed a wrecked car on the front lawn of the school prior to its prom to warn students of the dangers.

A mangled car involved in a fatal accident sat on the front lawn of Belleville High School for almost a week serving as a grim reminder about the consequences of distracted driving.

The Belleville High School Safety Team and Belleville Public School Guidance Department had the car placed on the lawn May 27 to June 2 to coincide with the Belleville High School prom, a time of year in which students are more likely to be killed or suffer serious injuries from distracted or impaired driving.

"It is an opportunity to see the consequences of driving while impaired without having to live through the actual reality.  Hopefully it will have an impact on the students and prevent a deadly tragedy from destroying their lives," said safety team member Judith Worster.
