Essex County College Offers Personal Fitness, Child Care Management Programs

A pair of certificate courses will be offered starting in March at the main Newark campus of Essex County College.

Personal Fitness Trainer National Certification is an ideal course for people interested in becoming a certified personal trainer. This program is co-sponsored by the World Instructor Training Schools. Core topics include anatomy, exercise physiology, cardio-respiratory fitness, nutrition, health screening and much more. The national certification exam is administered the last day of class. The 12 session course will meet Saturdays, starting March 1, from 9 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. A 30-hour post course internship is required and the Heart Saver Adult CPR course is required for certification. Total cost of the class is $536.

Managing a Child Care Center is a four session course designed to provide child care professionals with the basic managerial skills needed to operate a child care center. Topics include selection of employees, labor laws, child care policies and procedures, taxes and insurance, health and safety, and effective management techniques. The class will meet Saturdays, starting March 8, from 9 to 11:30 a.m.Total cost is $110.
