Student Government Day Gives Student Glimpse Of Life After High School

Seventy-five students shadowed 75 professionals to obtain career information and skills.

Seniors at Belleville High School got a taste for their prospective future careers with Student Government Day.

The event, coordinated by educator Deborah Strano, took place April 25 and immersed 75 students with 75 professionals to learn career skills and get information on their chosen field.

The career-shadowing event started in 2012-13 school year and has seen a spike in popularity, according to organizers.

“I think this project was a huge success. The students shined in representing Belleville High School. In fact, we had more students and teachers participate this year than last year," said Strano. "In addition, I would like to thank the most important people who made this day a tremendous success- the students for making this a success.”

Students said the program allowed them to get a new perspective on the careers and changed their perspective.

“Shadowing the Assistant Superintendent for the day opened my eyes to a whole new perspective of Belleville Public Schools," said Kayla Fonseca, a student who shadowed the  Belleville Public Schools Assistant Superintendent. "I now value what every Belleville Public School employee does more-from the teachers to the administrators.”
