Former NFL Coach to Offer Tackle Clinic in Nutley

Thurmond Moore to hold one-day camp on Aug. 10.

Football moms and dads: Want your kid to learn to tackle like a pro? 

Next month, you’re in luck.

Youth football players in grades 3 through 8 can take part in a one-day clinic on Aug. 10 taught by professional football defensive coach Thurmond Moore.

Coach Moore, an expert and proponent of tackling safety, has been teaching his coaches and athletes at professional, college, high school, and youth football programs throughout the country.

Moore worked with the NFL’s San Diego Chargers for 29 years and also has experience extending to the UFL as well as college and high school to programs. He has worked with many NFL players, including Pro Bowlers Dwight Freeney and Joey Porter and trains prospects for the NFL draft.

Concussions and player safety has become a huge issue in football. Nutley Commissioner Mauro G. Tucci said the goal of the clinic is to provide safe tackling techniques to youth and high school football players and to teach coaches how to ensure safety.

“Coach Moore brings years of knowledge and leadership offering football fanatics a once in a lifetime experience” stated Commissioner Mauro G. Tucci. “The goal of this clinic is to provide safe and productive tackling techniques to today’s youth and high school football players, as well as provide valuable resources for the coaching community in knowing how to properly teach, diagnose and assess.”

The clinic will be held at Msgr. Owens Field in Nutley, across from the Parks and Recreation Department on 44 Park Avenue from 1:30 to 5:00 p.m., rain or shine. 

 The fee for this program is $35.00 .  Online registration is available at www.nutleynj.org.  Out-of-towners are welcome for this program.  If you need further information please contact the Department of Parks and Recreation at 973-284-4966 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
