Young football can show their pigskin skills when the Nutley Recreation Department hosts its Annual NFL Punt, Pass and Kick Competition on Sunday, Sept. 8 at Msgr. Owens Field across from 44 Park Ave at 11 a.m.
The free competition is open to Nutley boys and girls ages 6-15.
With the NFL Punt, Pass, Kick football competition, young gridironers are tested for distance and accuracy on fundamental football skills.
With more than 4 million participants nationwide, Punt, Pass & Kick has come a long way since kicking off in 1961. Boys and girls compete separately in five age classifications based upon the child's age as of December 31, 2013.
All participants must show proof of age at all levels of competition. Failure to provide a birth certificate or religious document (such as a baptismal record) will result in that participant being ineligible to compete.
Participants may register and compete in only one local competition.
Winners from local events advance to sectional competition, date and location to be announced with the top five winners in each region will advance to the Team Championships. The first-place finishers in each Team Championship age group advance to the National Finals at an NFL playoff game in January.
“Children can’t help but feel a sense of accomplishment while showcasing their skills during this NFL sponsored event” Commissioner Tucci said in an announcement.
“Participation in sporting events gives your child a fun, practical way to learn about goal setting,” Commissioner Tucci said. “Regardless of ability, boys and girls will be challenged and have a great time learning how to play football. NFL Punt, Pass & Kick is about more than just who throws or kicks the ball the farthest…it’s about encouraging kids to be active and have fun playing the game of football.
Entry forms are available at the Recreation Department, 44 Park Ave. For competition information, contact the Nutley Recreation Department at 973-284-4966.
