Enjoy a wide variety of entertainment in Essex County.
Our little corner of the world is overflowing with interesting events this weekend. From a screening of all the short films nominated for Oscars, to a special story time for special needs kids, there is a wide spectrum of activities from which to choose. The local libraries are offering movies, plays, teen game time, and Black History celebrations. Enjoy Irish music and step dancing in Bloomfield, or a N.J. Devils game in Newark.

The 84th Academy Awards will air live Sunday evening. If you want to be in-the-know about the short films that have been nominated, check out The Montclair Underdog Film Festival on Saturday. Starting at 10 a.m., ALL of the short films—live action, animated, documentary—will be shown, along with a special screening of the Poetry of Resilience produced by Corinna Sager, a Montclair resident. The Caldwell Public Library has invited the community to the very first “Muffins and Movie in the Morning.” In addition to a free breakfast, enjoy the classic film Guess Who's Coming to Dinner,starring Sidney Poitier, Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy. Brendan Ryan Walsh will star in a one-man play "A Eulogy for Vincent," at the West Caldwell Public Library this Sunday. Based on the correspondence between Post Impressionist genius Vincent Van Gogh and his younger brother Theo, the play focuses on the life and times of the tortured artist. Free Candlelight Restorative Yoga
Picture a room lit by candlelight, with music playing softly in the background. Essential oils and scented eye pillows provide a relaxing aroma. Props, blocks and pillows make you comfortable, while a full hour of yoga begins. Prepare for your work week with this restorative yoga class, provided free of charge by Verona Yoga and Wellness Center. Black History Month Celebration
The Montclair Public Library will host a dance and drum performance by the Dance Theater & Education Center of Irvington NJ and Rudy Walker's Pamoja Drummers, in celebration of Black History Month. The junior members of the Studio Players present Twinderella, a twist on the fairy tale of Cinderella, which now hysterically includes her long lost twin brother, Bob. Negro Spirituals: Songs of Trial and Triumph
Grace Church-Episcopal welcomes Jonathon Hampton, baritone, with Joseph Arndt on piano, for a concert of sacred and secular music. Hampton is classically trained and influenced by the blues and gospel of his hometown Chicago, and performs with passion and power, for a beautiful expression of his ancestral roots. Bag pipes, Corned Beef & Cabbage, and Irish Soda Bread! Enjoy an adults-only evening of traditional Irish music and Irish stepdancing at Saint Thomas the Apostle Parish School, complete with a sing-along and a raffle. The Belleville Township Public Library & Information Center invites teens to the library for an afternoon of gaming, including Wii, board games, cards and more. NJ Devils vs. Tampa Bay Lightning (Junior League of Morristown)
The Junior League of Morristown is hosting a special NJ Devils event. Each ticket to the game includes a $10 food and beverage voucher, a post-game tour of the Prudential Center, and entry to win an autographed hockey stick by a Devils player. Enjoy an afternoon of hockey as the Devils take on the Tampa Bay Lightning, and support benefits the projects and programs of the Junior League of Morristown at the same time. $60; Sunday at 1 p.m.; Newark.
