Nutley Farmers Market Gets Peachy in August

Throughout the month, the Greenutley Committee celebrates seasonal fruit and are looking for restaurants to join in the fun.

With the Nutley Farmers Market in full summer swing, Commissioner Joseph Scarpelli and the Greenutley Committee have joined the New Jersey Peach Promotion Council in recognizing the month of August as Jersey-Fresh Peach Month. Locally-grown peaches can be found in markets from July through late September.

In recognition of Jersey-Fresh Peach Month, the Aug. 4 Nutley Farmers Market will hold a “Peach Party” celebrating the fuzzy, sweet fruit. At the Greenutley Information Booth, there will be peach samples, brochures, recipe books, and activity worksheets for the kids. Quantities are limited and will be available while supplies last. Also, visit the booth for a chance to win a peach basket.

“August is the time when locally grown peaches are at their peak,” commented Commissioner Scarpelli. “This promotion will hopefully create more traffic for our farmers, and will also help promote local businesses by giving them a chance to feature peaches as a main ingredient in a dish (or dishes) on their menu.”

The Greenutley Committee encourages local restaurants to join in by offering peach dish on their menu in August, with suggestions ranging from peach cobbler to salsa. Eateries are asked to submit their peach-related item to the Greenutley Committee which will then be advertised in August.

Restaurants can contact Meredith Blank of the Public Affairs Department at 973-284-4976.
