Nutley Fourth of July Festivities to Feature Flashmob, Fireworks

A full array of family activities will again be offered at Independence Day celebration.

Nutley’s Fourth of July celebration will have its usual family fun and fireworks, but this year it will include Nutley’s favorite dance moves.

When Nutley once again holds its annual Independence Day festivities this on July 4, the town’s Ultimate Flashmob dance will be on display.

“This year will be especially exciting as we showcase the video of many elementary students and township residents doing the Ultimate Flashmob dance,” Nutley Mayor Alphonse Petracco said in an email.

Morning activities will include the Firecracker Competition for kids ages 12 and under. Little Learners will have activities from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Registration for all others is from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. in the Nutley Park Oval with games, which include a potato sack race, ball throws and running races starting at 9:30 a.m. and continuing until noon and other activities. Participants will be receiving ribbons and free Italian ice donated by Rita’s. The top finishers will receive medals in categories for 4 and under, 5 and 6 year olds, 7 to 9 year olds, and 10 to 12 year olds.

“Nutley’s Fourth of July Celebrations have been a township tradition for many years and are made possible by the countless volunteers who help throughout the day,” Petracco said in an email. “It is so great to see Nutley’s families celebrate together.

Evening festivities begin with Franklin Avenue Street closing from Church to Chestnut Street at 6 p.m. A DJ will provide music and games in the Oval and food vendors will be selling food on site.

At dusk, the video showcasing Nutley Elementary Schools doing the “What I Am” Flashmob will be shown on the Park Oval with fireworks following. Seating in the Oval will be limited and lawnchairs and blankets are encouraged to be used along Franklin Avenue and Chestnut Street.

In the event of inclement weather, the fireworks will be rescheduled for the next clear night. Check www.nutleynj.org for details.
