KIds Take Part in Turkey 'Hunt'

Event Sponsored by Rotary

Children of various ages arrived at the Clermont Field of School 8 early Saturday morning with their parents to join the Chocolate Turkey Hunt. Despite the chilly air, the kids had a good time munching on some breakfast, interacting with clowns, watching magic tricks, and of course, the main event--hunting for yummy chocolate turkeys all over the field.

Organized by the Belleville Rotary Club, the Turkey Hunt is now on its second year.

"It's just a little something we thought of doing for the kids for Thanksgiving," says Rotary Club President Phil Nobile. "Something fun for them."

The Belleville Rotary Club is composed of volunteer professionals from various industries who wish to contribute to their local community as well as to global efforts of the international Rotary Club.

"We have a sense of what Belleville needs because we're all part of the community," says Nobile.

The Club raises funds and sponsors numerous projects including the Belleville Little League, donation of 400 dictionaries to all the third graders in Belleville's public and private schools, an ongoing food pantry during the holidays and a coat drive which they co-sponsor with the Cerebral Palsy Center, also located in Belleville. Last year, the club was able to give out 200 coats to the needy.

"We also sponsor open heart surgery for children around the world who can't afford the procedure," shares Nobile. "We've saved the lives of over 15 children over the years."

The Rotary Club of Belleville is celebrating its 90th anniversary, so Nobile says they will have more events and festivities as the year goes on.

They also wish to extend an invitation to anyone who wish to join the club.

"We're always looking for new members," adds Nobile. "The more members we have, the more community service we can do for Belleville."
