Annual parade held on Monday, May 27.
This week, Nutley Mayor Alphonse Petracco and the Board of Commissioners announced plans for the Township’s Annual Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 27 at 11 am. Weather permitting, a brief opening ceremony will be held in the Nutley Park Oval at 10:45, with the parade route being the same as previous years: Chestnut Street to Passaic Avenue to Centre Street to Franklin Avenue, with reviewing stage in front of JHW Middle School. The Jersey Shore is officially open for summer, Gov. Chris Christie said as he spent Friday morning in Seaside Heights promoting tourism in New Jersey. Early Friday, Christie appeared on NBC's Today Show, which broadcast its morning news program live from Seaside Heights. Christie Administration awards teens for creative display of parental responsibility.
The Department of Human Services honored six New Jersey high school and middle school students for their creativity and artistry in depicting parental responsibility for the Division of Family Development's Annual Teen Media Contest. Carrie Zhang, a student at Nutley's John H. Walker Middle School, was awarded first place in the middle school category of the New Jersey Department of Human Services' Annual Teen Media Contest. The event was held at the New Jersey State House, where the art will be displayed throughout May. The parenting-themed contest engages with high school and middle school students through art, the DHS said in a press statement. Tourism commissioner says rental market is healthy.
Though immense devastation from Superstorm Sandy remains visible up and down the New Jersey coastline, beaches, boardwalks and even rental homes are ready for the annual influx of summer tourists that will begin this weekend, officials said Thursday at the annual "State of the Shore" event in Belmar. The State of the Shore report is presented by state officials and the New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium every year before Memorial Day weekend kicks off, but this year it evolved to mark the unofficial reopening of the Shore area following Sandy.
