Charlie Hand -- Your hearing is highly selective. People are not happy that anyone dies -- they areRead More happy that criminals breaking into their homes won't ever be breaking into anyone else's homes because either they didn't get caught or their "punishment" for getting caught will be another wrist-slap. If you're feeling kindly toward burglars that's wonderful -- post your address, letting them know they'll be safe breaking into your place. Leaving out milk & cookies for them would be thoughtful while you're at it.
Steve Graham April 23, 2014 at 06:03 pm
when you break into some ones home you should know that you left every god given right outside. ifRead More you break into my house I will shoot you. I'm not a gun expert so I'm not aiming at your knee cap. my best shot is your upper torso. I might not kill you, but I also wont begrudge someone who does kill you under the same circumstances.
Mary Hall-Ries April 23, 2014 at 06:05 pm
Bottom line: It's not a good idea to break into someone else's home…anyone disagree? Kids -Read More take this under advisement. Parents - make sure you teach your kids about CONSEQUENCES. And by the way, your popularity status is not relevant when looking down the barrel of a gun.

$6 Bil Vanishes From State Dept. Under Hillary Clinton APRIL 07, 2014 In a mind-boggling example ofRead More how the government blows—or perhaps steals—our tax dollars, billions vanished from the U.S. State Department mostly while Hillary Clinton ran it, according to a new alert issued by the agency’s inspector general. Could the former Secretary of State be using the cash to fund an upcoming presidential campaign? In all, $6 billion are missing and it’s highly unlikely any of the money will ever be recovered. The cash was supposed to be used to pay contractors but it just disappeared and documents that could help track the dough cannot be located. How convenient! The paper trail, which federal law says must be maintained in the case of government contracts, has been destroyed or was never created to begin with.
B. Dub April 23, 2014 at 03:50 pm
One positive thing? Um... she never became President?
Simon April 23, 2014 at 04:06 pm
AN ANALYSIS  WORTH READING: by Dick Morris, former political advisor to President Bill ClintonRead More beware as I was there for most of their presidency and know them better than just about anyone, I offer a few corrections; The facts are: Hillary's main extra-curricular activity in law school was helping the Black Panthers, on trial in Connecticut for torturing and killing a federal agent. The facts are:  Hillary interned with Bob Truehaft, the head of the California Communist Party. The facts are:   She flunked the DC bar exam, yes, flunked,  it is a matter of record, and only passed the Arkansas bar. The facts are:  Her main board activity, was to sit on the Wal-Mart board of directors, for a substantial fee. She was silent about their labor and health care practices. The facts are: Her visits abroad were entirely touristic and symbolic and there was no substantive diplomacy on any of them. One cannot think of a single bill Hillary has introduced or a single comment she has made that would tend to strengthen our country in the War on Terror. Think  about it - he's (Dick Morris) said all of this openly, thus if he were not truthful he'd be liable for defamation of  character! And you better believe Hilary would sue him.

Cops got a chance to play with their toys. Relax people. It's not like you had to respondRead More personally. Stop saying it's a waste of money. Then money is absolutely minimal. These guys were not called away from their golf games. I would also like to compliment the responders for not accidentally killing someone. It showed professionalism and did not add to the "trend" of killing "innocent" people; which is becoming an issues to watch. The people incensed over this should focus their anger on plastic shopping bags as many others are doing over at another great Patch piece. Evil lurks at the checkout counters across America!

Coffeenut April 23, 2014 at 05:47 pm
The cost is almost a human life. Is it really worth it to harrass people and ruin their lives andRead More almost die? Nope not at all. Cops get what they deserve when they try to control/ruin people's lives. Totally needless.

Black Panther, you assume a lot. So full of hate, who taught you that?...and if I had two shoes ofRead More the same persuasion, they would be "two right shoes." Listen, when that hate boils over, please do us all a favor and take it out on those who saddled you with such...excuses, excuses, excuses.

Black Panther of Poetry? More like the Black Panther of Bigotry.
Grumpy Old Man April 23, 2014 at 04:54 pm
@Black Racist of Poetry - The problem with race relations in this country is well, you. I thinkRead More blacks can achieve whatever they set their minds to, and there are numerous examples of that. It was always a measure of racism, whether real or imagined, to think of blacks as being such superior athletes. The implication of course was that they weren't capable of engaging in intellectual pursuits. Here, I state that a goal of affirmative action is to permit them to engage in intellectual activities and you respond by advocating the stereotype of the blacks as being such superior athletes and musicians. You are a real gem, a real credit to the Black Panthers and racists everywhere. By the way, I wouldn't trumpet the black background of rock and roll. Some of us don't like rock and roll. That doesn't mean we don't acknowledge or admire many black musicians. What's even more funny, or in your case, sick, the musicians you mentioned, Beatles, Presley, all acknowledged their debt to black musicians. You are an insult to every black person in this country who seeks to get ahead for himself and his family and rid the country, no the world, of intolerance.

the only difference I see between Codey and Christie is that one is wearing an orange cone and theRead More other one is still renting them out at will - regardless, the longer Julie Herrman remains at Rutgers, the longer Rutgers's integrity is going to be under a public cloud
Clyde Z April 23, 2014 at 07:59 am
her hiring was a joke, I mean they said they did a background check: must not have used GoogleRead More search because they've listed her troubles before her hire at Rutgers. Not to mention that she "lied" on her application. I've had co-workers fired after a month, months and in another case years after their hire due to lies on their application. Hermann's lies could/should have been cought by simple 10th grade investigation
Everyday Mathematics is just one of the programs that makes a heck of a lot of $ off of the millions of textbooks sold to schools that teach to the 'Core.' The Common Core isn't just restricting for teachers & students, it's lining people's pockets.

National Governor’s Association and the Council of Chief State School Officers are private,Read More no-profit organizations. They are NOT government agencies. Therefore the STATES DO NOT OWN THE RIGHTS TO CCSS.
Matt Miller April 23, 2014 at 04:53 pm
So educational professionals and people that hire these students out of college or high schoolRead More shouldn't have a seat at the table? Who should make curriculum decisions? The local school board member that doesn't know anything about a high quality education? The state government that might think creationism and abstinence only education is still what our children should be learning? I'd rather have the Common Core which brought together education professionals from all of the states to make sure my kids have a leg up when they graduate High School. They also brought in companies that have decades of education or hiring experience. What's wrong with having people that know what they are talking about, setting our policy? I'd rather have professionals making these decisions and not some groups that create facebook pages and youtube videos demonizing Common Core because they don't want to listen to the facts.

We don't rule by majority in this country. We are explicitly NOT a Christian nation. It is not by myRead More belief. I don't make the rules. Our Constitution clearly states that the government shall not establish a religion. That's what we go by in this country, our Constitution; not what you believe or what I believe. You have no idea what I am. You are grossly ignorant and jump to conclusions. We are a nation of laws. The 1796 Treaty with Tripoli states that the United States was "not in any sense founded on the Christian religion" (see the image on the right). This was not an idle statement meant to satisfy muslims-- they believed it and meant it. This treaty was written under the presidency of George Washington and signed under the presidency of John Adams.

The court casse is about being Patriotic without saying our Pledge of Allegiance. You know I couldRead More shout "under God" even if it would be removed. But that does not demonstrate my Patriotism. We are a Christian or God honoring Nation when it is convenient. What is even more interesting is that a nearby Allah loving Mulsim Mosque sent about 20 of their old youth to help out Sanday damaged homes. That was great. The Southern Baptists sent 50,000 men and women to NJ for more than a year, in order to join in the restoration of the New Jersey Coast. That was also great. Yet sorry to say, I didn't see an Atheist or Humanist Organization although there is a Humanist HQ within 6 miles of the Shore. BTW I did not even see any Red Cross operation at work. I only saw 3 Red Cross Workers dining at a church providing food for workers. Sooo yup, our Nation lives with God in their hearts - at least most do. LOL

FOR THOSE WHO LIKE AMAZON PRIME OVER NETFLIX: Here's an interesting article from today (23 Apr 2014)Read More about how Amazon Prime just got HBO to stream at least some of its older content, plus "HBO GO," to Amazon's new Fire TV box, thereby making NetFlix upset because NetFlix (nor any other streaming service, including HULU) has never been able to get any HBO content; and so Amazon has scored a real coup! At least they are bi-partisan. An inappropriate Democratic role model last year and an inappropriateRead More Republican one this year. Speaking of teachers unions, anyone who follows school issues is aware of the dust up involvingRead More David Cummings and the leaked Common Core assessments. Rumor has it he may have been behind the leaks (just rumors at this point), but a couple things make me think we don't have the whole story. Cummings sits on the school board and negotiates with the teachers union etc. And his biography says he teaches as an adjunct at Montclair State and William Patterson. In his role as a teacher Cummings is represented by the American Federation of Teachers, a national union that has made it their mission to take down Common Core. Maybe this explains some of his politics on Common Core and that he might be behind the Common Core test leaks? Not sure if it represents a conflict of interest per se, but it definitely raises questions...

I agree with Pete Mock; Old School is totally misinformed. Sad that so many tax payers are buyingRead More into the propaganda that has been put out there.

Re: Cummings - I wouldn't dismiss the conflict of interest out of hand. AFT did a big about face onRead More CC and it stands to reason that a 1.5m member org would be able to make suggestions down the food chain. Though it's not a clear line from AFT to negotiating with unions to Common Core it doesn't look great for Cummings either.

I agree with B. Dub 100%! How was this kid able to scale a fence and just walk right over to theRead More plane? TSA: for all the harassing you do in the terminal...you ain't all that!! As far as the kid being a runaway..maybe he does face some serious abuse issues at home. He's damn lucky to be alive. But, I raised three boys, and a 16 year old boy can runaway for any collage of reasons. My kids never ran away but, I'm wondering if the fact that the plane was going to HAWAII has anything to do with it. It sounds a little compulsive to me. CPA need good follow up on this.
