Peter Greer, 38, charged with holdup of Belleville Bank on Nov. 6, 2012 and Feb. 23, 2013, officials say.
A New Brunswick man who allegedly robbed five area banks – including one Belleville bank two times and a Newark bank – has been arrested and charged in the incidents, law enforcement officials announced Thursday. Peter Greer, 38, is charged with robbing a Valley National Bank in Belleville on both Nov. 6, 2012 and Feb. 23, 2013, according to a Thurssday, March 14 published report on NorthJersey.com. Greer used the same procedure in all the robberies, officials said. He’d enter the bank, approach the teller, and then hand the teller a note claiming he had a gun and demanded money. Following two bank robberies, Belleville police seek to catch the suspect.
Belleville police believe that the same man robbed two township banks and are asking for the public's help in finding him. According to a press release, the man entered the Valley National bank at 11:41 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23. Wearing a red Yankees baseball cap and a blue zip up hoodie, he reportedly handed the teller a note reading "Give me money have gun." The man, described as a 5'8" man in his mid 20s, reportedly left with $3,200. Police believe he also robbed the Valley National bank in November of 2012 and the Sovereign Bank in Newark the previous month. Authorities are investigating a bank robbery Tuesday at the Valley National Bank on Bloomfield Avenue. Just before 1 p.m. Tuesday, the suspect entered the bank at 22 Bloomfield Ave. and passed a note to the teller reading "Have gun. Give me money," according to Deputy Chief Mark Minichini of the Belleville Police Department. The suspect made off with the contents of the teller's drawer and fled north on foot on Belmont Avenue. Exact proceeds have not been determined, Minichini said. The Essex County Prosecutor's Office is investigating the death of a West Orange woman on Oct. 31.
