St. Patrick's Day Parades in Essex County

Photos from Saturday's Nutley parade and what you need to know about upcoming parades in West Orange and Newark.

If you were out of town or incapicated for reasons other than drink and/or cheer last weekend and missed Nutley's parade, you have more chances to shout Erin go bragh. It's one down and two to go for St. Patrick's Day parades in Essex County this month.  Nutley held its 35th Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade on Saturday and Patch got O'Plenty of pics of the festivities. The parade was sponsored by the Nutley Irish American Alliance.  Next up is the 62nd Annual West Orange St. Patrick's Day Parade, which steps off at 12:15 p.m. on Sunday, March 10. The parade commences at 66 Main St. and culminates at the intersection of Main Street, Eagle Rock Avenue, Mississippi Avenue and Harrison Avenue. This year's Grand Marshal will be N.J. Assemblyman …

Residents Paint the Town Green

St. Patrick's Day in Nutley attracts residents from the area in an early celebration.

The day may have started out overcast, but the sun broke through and added to the festive spirit of this year's St. Patrick's Day Parade. All along Washington Avenue, Nutley residents and neighbors from surrounding communities lined the center of town for the prade on Saturday.  They waved Irish flags, wore green beads and headbands, shamrocks on their hats and green, orange and white feather boas. Wearing matching green headbands with her daughter, 21-month-old Michaela, Susan Minicozzi said she looks forward to the parade every year – and Michaela loves picking up the candy that marchers throw to the crowds. “She says candy. She has three pocketbooks to fill up with candy,” said Minicozzi, who lives in town. “We’re Italian but I like to …
