Nutley Board Renews Trash Contract, Talks Sharing Costs

The Nutley Board of Commissioners looks at joining surrounding municipalities in negotiating a garbage contract as a group to save money, says problems can be solved.,

The Board of Commissioners agreed to extend the nearly $800,000, Nutley trash collection contract for another year, and renewing the option brought discussion of possibly joining other towns to get a lower group rate. The governing body picked up the option on Jan.15 to use the same solid waste collection company through 2013, after discussion about the price being competitive. Officials also praised the quality of the service. At the  Jan. 15 public commissioners meeting, Commissioner Steve Rogers brought the idea to the four other board members. Commissioner Thomas Evans then questioned the entire process of negotiating a garbage contract. “Do we know if any of the other towns, like say Bloomfield, are using the same hauler?” Evans asked…

Commissioner says half the bridge will be open on different sides during the state-funded replacement, which will begin this spring and take more than one year to complete

The Centre Street Bridge over the Second River in Nutley will be rebuilt starting this spring, but half the bridge will remain open during construction, and the bridge's historic look will be preserved, according to local and county officials.  The Essex County Board of Chosen Freeholders' voted Nov. 20 to provide $1 million from the New Jersey Transportation Trust Fund for the township project, according to Nutley Commissioner Joseph Scarpelli, who oversees the Department of Public Works. The Nutley funding represents the lion's …

I imagine that Casey Jackman is not incorrect. But I have the same query as Lutz Hoemke. It would be nice to read in the article why the bridge is being repaired/rebuilt.   more ›

Nutley Officials Busy Despite 'Dog Days'

Board of Commissioners meet tonight to continue work began earlier this summer.

While Nutley residents have enjoyed vacationing this summer, Nutley officials have been hard at work. That work will continue when the board meets tonight at 7 p.m. in Nutley Town Hall Commissioners Chambers on Chestnut Street. At its last meeting, Nutley commissioners approved funding assistance for a special needs group, exempted artists from paying fees to attend an upcoming event, and OK’d an application to repair sidewalks and repave streets. Commissioner Mauro Tucci said at the Aug. 21 commissioners meeting a bid was awarded for services to the Special Young Adults group in town, but a second bidder has contested the award, so the official vote had to be delayed.
