Photo Gallery: A Pink Out for Lindsay Giordano

Some of our favorite pictures from Friday's event at BHS

About 800 people gathered at Belleville High School on Friday evening for a Pink Out that featured two basketball games, awareness about breast cancer, and a tribute to 29-year-old Lindsay Giordano, a 2000 BHS graduate currently undergoing chemotherapy. And more than $6,000 was raised to help Giordano with her medical bills. A school teacher in Paterson, she has not worked since October. Here are some of Patch's photos from the Pink Out — an event that galvanized our town for a good cause! "This is really what Belleville is," BHS Athletic Director Tom D'Elia said. "The kids are fantastic, the parents are supportive, and they watched us come out to play two great games. "This was all hands on deck. It was only a success because everyone …

Before 800, BHS Boys Rally Past Rival Nutley

Big crowd inspires Bucs to 14th victory in overtime; girls fall to Nutley

Tommy Rosario stared into the and saw 800 strong cheering him and his teammates Friday night, a rare time fans filled both sides of the Belleville High School gymnasium. Ultimately, it provided the Buccaneers' star senior forward and everyone in home white a most memorable night. Although much of the crowd came to support the Pink Out which benefited Belleville native Lindsay Giordano, who is battling breast cancer, they ultimately enjoyed the thrill ride their hometown team took them on across 36 minutes of a 51-45 overtime victory over neighboring rival Nutley. “That was really fun,” Rosario said. “The first quarter, I was frozen. But after that, everyone played their game.” Before the largest home crowd in recent memory, the Buccaneers…

Pink Out a Rousing Success

More than $6,000 raised as Belleville rallies around Lindsay Giordano

On Friday night, Lindsay Giordano found herself overwhelmed when she walked into Belleville High School for the first time in about 10 years. For the second time in about 48 hours, hundreds of friends and supporters gathered to back her in her ongoing battle against breast cancer. “It shows everyone is behind me,” said Giordano, a 2000 BHS graduate, with a smile. “It means the world to me.” After nearly 750 folks packed into The Brownstone in Paterson for a Wednesday night fundraiser, 800 arrived at her alma mater Friday evening for a Pink Out that not only paid tribute to the 29-year-old who underwent a double mastectomy and is currently undergoing chemotherapy, but also raised awareness about her affliction — and also accumulated more …

The Best of Belleville: Why Lindsay Giordano Matters

Tonight is the Pink Out basketball doubleheader at BHS. We're hoping to see 1,500 strong there!

More Than Raising Funds, Raising Breast Cancer Awareness

Friday's Pink Out will benefit Lindsay Giordano but also shed a light on the affliction itself

More than the mere sale of commemorative t-shirts and bracelets that will help cover the cost of Lindsay Giordano's healthcare as she copes with breast cancer, Tom D'Elia hears the stories. As others make their donations, they tell the Belleville High School athletic director how Giordano's affliction affected their lives. “Breast cancer is a very real thing,” D'Elia said. “Every shirt that's worn, every bracelet that's worn, is awareness.” Above all else, that is what Friday night's basketball doubleheader between Belleville and neighboring rival Nutley is about: boosting awareness about breast cancer. Although several of the expected sellout crowd of 1,500 will help create a Pink Out, with many coming to support Giordano, a speaker from …
