Township Commissioner Dr. Joseph Scarpelli announced that the township is holding a crayon recycling initiative in pre-schools in honor of National Crayon Day, March 31. The drive concludes April 5. “This program is a great way to introduce the concept of recycling to our youngsters,” Commissioner Scarpelli said in a press release. “My goal is to get the youth of our community to act as recycling rangers by recycling on a regular basis, as well as reminding the adults around them to recycle.” The commissioner said creative recycling efforts spark conversation about how items can be reused or repurposed, ultimately …

Normal Voting Locations in Belleville, Nutley Open Tuesday

Other voting options available in wake of Sandy

Some residents in Belleville and Nutley may still be without power Monday morning due to Sandy a week ago. Schools in Belleville, meanwhile, are not planned to reopen until Wednesday. And everyone is nervously eyeing the needle on the gas gauge and wondering when they’ll be able to fuel up again in under three hours. But as far as voting Tuesday goes, at least, disruption will be fairly minimal. Voters in both Nutley and Belleville will be able to cast their ballots at their normal polling place, township clerks in both communities said this morning. For those who have been displaced by the storm, the state of New Jersey Saturday has authorized electronic voting. People can also vote in-person, and early, at the Essex County Clerk’s Office…

"So many New Jerseyans have demonstrated significant patience and resilience through the storm and this initial recovery period, and it is our obligation to get them back online and with the certainty of a timeline they can reliably plan their lives around …

Please note that all school activities have been canceled until Monday, November 5. This means that there will be no activity over the weekend. We are waiting to hear from ETS regarding the rescheduling of this weekend’s SAT administration. As of now, not all schools have power, and conditions in the town make travel dangerous for people in Nutley and difficult if not impossible for our staff that has to come from outside of the township.
