Nutley police received several reports last week of rocks being thrown into the street and at passing cars. Around 7:20 on Feb. 4, a witness said he saw two males throwing rocks near Kenzel Avenue and Kingsland Street. About an hour later, a motorist traveling on Kingsland told police someone threw a rock at the vehicle’s windshield, cracking it. On Feb. 6, three more motorists reported having their cars struck by rocks as they travelled on Kingsland. In the first incident, which occurred around 6 pm, the driver pulled over after the car was struck by a rock. One suspect caught immediately
Two of three youths suspected of beating and robbing a township man Jan. 28 remain at large, Capt. Tom Strumolo of the Nutley Police Department said Monday. The victim was walking in the area of Walnut and Rutgers streets shortly before 4 pm when he was approached by three boys ranging in age from 15 to 17. The youths punched the victim in the face and struck him in the head with a tree branch before making off with his two cell phones, a Motorola Droid 4 and a Motorola Droid X each worth about $600. Police later found the phones in a nearby yard. The victim was treated by the Nutley Rescue Squad. Apparent burglary attempt made at another address last week

A number of thefts and burglaries were reported in Nutley the past week. On Jan. 26, residents of a Hancox Avenue home told police a laptop valued at $500 was missing. There were no signs of forced entry. On Jan. 28, a River Road resident left the home in the morning and locked on door, then returned to find the home ransacked, with closet doors and drawers open. An iPad, a red laptop, jewelry and small change were all reported missing. On Jan. 29, a Cambridge Heights homeowner discovered the locks to the home had all been changed by a property company that had been there to winterize the address. On Jan. 24 a woman whose car had just been stolen spotted the vehicle shortly afterwards being driven by someone else, Nutley police said. The woman told police that she and a friend had left the vehicle parked around 7 pm on Stager Street between Ravine and Franklin avenues. When they returned about two hours later the car, an Acura Integra, which has been locked, was missing. Thinking the car had been towed, the victim and her friend drove to police headquarters. While driving, the two spotted the car parked on Ravine Avenue with a man behind the wheel. The two made eye contact with the man before he sped south towards Harrison Street, police said. A number of thefts and a burglary were reported in Nutley earlier this month, including one incident where the suspect reportedly posed as a township employee, police said. On Jan. 12, a Park Avenue homeowner told police that sometime in the last few weeks, construction equipment and other items were taken from the backyard of the home. Taken were a front-loading bucket valued at $1,200, two sets of loading forks worth $450 and $750, and a $300 GPS unit from a vehicle. On Jan. 14 at 3:19 pm, a woman reported that a man wearing a green traffic vest, hard hat, an ID badge and a walkie talkie came to her home claiming to be from the water department. A burglar entered a Nutley home Jan. 11 while a resident was upstairs, police said. The victim was in an upstairs bathroom at the Hartford Drive home around noon when banging was heard downstairs. The victim didn’t respond immediately but noticed dirt at the foot of the stairs when coming down about 15 minutes later. A basement door and a door leading to the yard had been unlocked and opened, and a basement window had been smashed. Dirt was found near where the window had been opened. The matter remains under investigation.
Township man allegedly held up Clifton bank early this month
Nutley police investigating a suspicious vehicle Jan. 10 arrested a township man suspected of a bank robbery in Clifton earlier this month. Patrolling officers spotted a car parked in front of a closed business on Washington Avenue around 1:38 am, Nutley police said. A check of the plate revealed it to be invalid, police said. Police then saw the car slowly drive away and stopped it, questioning the driver, identified as 48-year-old Wayne Winner, NorthJersey.com reported. Officers speaking to Winner noticed he resembled a suspect in the robbery of the Valley National Bank branch on Main Avenue in Clifton Jan. 4. Nutley police received several calls New Year’s Eve regarding damage and attempted burglaries to a number of cars on East Centre Street. At 8:41 am, the driver’s side doors of several vehicles were reported damaged, including one car whose door handle was torn off. An iPad was removed from one vehicle. Later that day, at 2 pm, police returned to East Centre Street on a report of a car with side-door and glove box damage. Nothing was reported taken.

The top stories on Belleville-Nutley Patch in December
A missing Nutley woman was found unharmed the day after police asked for the public’s help in locating her. Several cars parked on the same Belleville street were all vandalized. Two units at a Mill Street apartment complex in Belleville were burglarized, with tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of cash and merchandise reported stolen. A motorist was arrested on drug charges after Belleville police stopped his vehicle because a headlight was out. Six temporary jobs in Belleville and an additional three in Nutley were created with federal money. The workers will assist with cleanup efforts related to Hurricane Sandy. Hurricane Sandy, lawsuits filed against Belleville superintendent and Roche leaving Nutley for good
Belleville and Nutley residents were among those who mourned the loss of 16-year-old Christina Lembo, who was buried Oct. 5 after dying in a car accident. Both communities held tributes to the Bloomfield resident and soccer player. Belleville officials voted Nov. 1 to institute even-odd gas rationing in response to shortages caused by Hurricane Sandy. The state of New Jersey ordered a similar scheme in 12 counties the following day. The storm left much of Belleville and Nutley without power. The storm also compelled officials to close the bridge between Nutley and Lyndhurst and to take other precautionary measures. My husband and daughter were hit.. they were the car passing on feb.6th at 8:30pm. the whole window was shattered...they said it sounded like a bullet that is how loud it was... thank god nobody was hurt in any of the cars, by the rocks or from getting scared and losing control of the car. i hope they find these kids   more ›
