Hurricane Sandy, lawsuits filed against Belleville superintendent and Roche leaving Nutley for good

Belleville and Nutley residents were among those who mourned the loss of 16-year-old Christina Lembo, who was buried Oct. 5 after dying in a car accident. Both communities held tributes to the Bloomfield resident and soccer player. Belleville officials voted Nov. 1 to institute even-odd gas rationing in response to shortages caused by Hurricane Sandy. The state of New Jersey ordered a similar scheme in 12 counties the following day. The storm left much of Belleville and Nutley without power. The storm also compelled officials to close the bridge between Nutley and Lyndhurst and to take other precautionary measures.  Deena Cortese, a cast member of the reality show “Jersey Shore,” was arrested on a disorderly conduct charge in Seaside …

Donate Food in Nutley Sunday

Annual Action Against Hunger food drive seeking food donations

Area supermarkets will join the fight against hunger Sunday as part of the 21st annual Action Against Hunger food drive. Among the particpating markets is the Nutley ShopRite, 437 Franklin Ave.  Donations can also be made to the North Jersey Media Group Foundation's drive between noon and 4 p.m. at the Bloomfield A&P (19 Belleville Ave.), ShopRite (1409 N. Broad St.) and Stop & Shop (8 Franklin St.). Action Against Hunger is the largest food drive in the metropolitan area, serving 65 pantries that assist 40,000 people. "In all my years of food banking, I have never seen a time as challenging as this one," said Kathleen DiChiara, president and CEO of the Community FoodBank of New Jersey, in a statement.
