Small Business Saturday is on Nov. 24 this year, two days after Thanksgiving. It is a day for everyone to support the small businesses that their community thrives on. American Express founded the day in 2010 to help small businesses get exposure during the holiday season, when they might be otherwise overlooked. With retailers buzzing around the holidays, it is important to support local small businesses that rely on their neighbors in order to continue prospering and building the local economy in both Belleville and Nutley. Alumni from the rival schools playing this Sunday
Former Raiders and Buccaneers will be taking to the gridiron once again this Sunday -- and all for a good cause. Alumni of the friendly arch-rival football teams will be meeting for a charity flag football game to be held at 1 pm at Belleville High School, 100 Passaic Ave. Proceeds from concessions and admission will go towards the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund. The game is being organized by former Buccaneers Jason Luzzi and Mike Perinotti as well as former Nutley Raider Bill Mbua. Luzzi, a 2005 graduate of Belleville High School, said he was motivated to pull the game together after his family’s home in Ortley Beach was damaged. Guests dined on everything from scallop ceviche with fennel to specialty meatballs as more than 40 restaurants, caterers, and beverage merchants showcased their best and most creative dishes at the 8th annual A Tasteful Experience fundraiser on Monday, Nov.12, held at the Pleasantdale Chateau to benefit the Child Life Program at Clara Maass Medical Center.
