New 'Nutley Corps' Volunteer Group Helps Residents in Need

More assistance on the way for senior citizens and disabled residents.

The Nutley Department of Public Affairs has established ‘Nutley Corps,’ a volunteer service program for Nutley residents. The Corp is envisioned as a network of citizen volunteers willing to use their skills, talents, expertise and life experiences to help fellow residents. “As we were walking door to door over the past several months, numerous senior citizens and disabled residents would ask us to help them with minor things such as tightening a faucet, or putting a frame up, or tightening loose screws on a table," Rogers said. "Other citizens who suddenly found themselves under medical care and temporarily lost their mobility, needed help with walking their dogs. Local Residents Become Volunteer CASA Child Advocates

Stacey Lukowiak, of Nutley, and Farrah Rochester, of Belleville, were recently sworn in as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for Essex County CASA, NJ after successfully completing a 33-hour training course.

'March Into Spring' Raises Hope for the Needy

Hundreds Support Woman's Club's Annual Fundraiser

They won an an autographed apron and hat from the "Cake Boss," a Nanina's in the Park gift basket, and an original oil painting. Around 214 guests bid for the prizes at the Tricky Tray basket auction sponsored by The Woman's Club of Belleville. The event, titled, “March Into Spring” brought in women from Belleville, Nutley and neighboring communities to The Chandelier on Franklin Avenue on March 22.  "We sent out around 150 letters," said Ellen Lund, the Club's Vice-President and Co-Chair for the event. "Some of our members went door-to-door to ask for donations, and different members also donated prize baskets." "We've had a very good turnout both in donations and participation," said Lund.
